Our story
Rooted in family. Raised on pasture.

Why “Goode Pickens”

The farm is named for the Pickens family, on our founder Wesley's grandmother's side. They gave him his first taste of running a business, and this farm carries their name forward.
Farming runs deeper still. Wesley descends from Ishmael Roberts, whose family helped build Black farming settlements in Indiana before the Civil War.
None of those family farms were in Colorado. Goode Pickens is a Colorado farm built to carry the Pickens name and that legacy of land, self-reliance and feeding a community forward.
The farm
Open land and big skies in southern Colorado.

How we raise our hens
Happy hens lay better eggs. Here's what that looks like day to day.

Out on pasture
Once they're grown, our hens head out each day to forage on grass and alfalfa, plus all the bugs they can catch.
Feed from close to home
We're growing grain here on the farm and working with a nearby mill on our own feed mix.
Healthier land every year
We're planting perennial pasture and moving the flock across fresh ground so the soil keeps getting richer.
A safe, warm home
At day's end the hens return to a secure, heated barn, safe from predators and Colorado winters.
Why we're doing this
Fresher food
Most store eggs pass through warehouses and distributors first. Ours go from our farm to you.
Good food for everyone
We're bringing drop points to neighborhoods where fresh, healthy food is hard to find.
Money stays in the community
Every dozen you buy supports a small Colorado farm and the community around it.
